The challenge was to visually represent this sound and capture the right emotions while appealing to his audience — those who connect with his introspective, experimental style.
The strategy was to listen to the album over and over (and then some). From there, I developed a visual tone, message, and emotion that matched the sound. A key element was crafting a warped 3D cube with mirrored surfaces, which I handmade one night while listening to his music.
I photographed it and integrated it into the design. The rest came together through typography and layout, creating a sense of emptiness that reflected the depth and isolation in the music.
The final result is a blend of metallic reflections, large type, and vast, empty backdrops that speak to the depth of his sound.
